The Key Goals of Education in the Future Focus on People's Potential
Do We Strive To Develop Talent, Or Strive To Develop Potentials?
What are the key goals of education for the future? What is the difference in talent versus potential? And how will we begin to see talent and potential in our education systems of the future?
Talent is generally what we're good at and it is still considered one of the goals of education. It's when we're naturally talented at something that we can act smoothly. So lots of people have talents, or natural talent, in one or more areas. It's simply "what comes natural" for you. It is usually a major basis from which we choose a careerin life. "I'm talented at drawing, so I became a graphic artist at a graphic design company". And because it's more understood by people today and still one of the current goals of education, we won't place much emphasis on it.
Potential on the other hand is something you haven't yet achieved. Developing students potentials is one of the main goals of education that prepares children for the future. In one way, your potential is what you could reach, what you have a possibility or ability to reach.
Kids Want More Than What We Adults Believe Is Possible
If we look at the future and we want to make sure that we have the best quality of life, then we start to look at somebody's potential. If your question is, "What should I do in the future?" or "What should my child do in the future?", then first ask yourself, "What can I do that will give me the best quality of life?"
And so the deeper question that naturally arises is, "What is my Potential in this life?" Because satisfying this potential is what will challenge and drive us to higher levels of achievement. This is why developing our potentials is the main goal of education for the future.
As you can see, potential is extremely important, yet it's something that only athletes in today's society have had the most experience in working with. But in the future, potential will be examined and placed alongside every person's life goal more and more. It will affect how we educate our children from the moment they are born.
Future Goals Of Education Made Simple
In the past we looked at our potential mostly in the terms of our earning potential; what we could do to make money. For example, people accepted working with materials like asbestos; at first because they didn't know that it damaged their health; later perhaps because they didn't have the creativity or ability to do anything different. So they tolerated it.
In the present, many if not most people still tolerate unhealthy jobs without realizing the long-term effects on our bodies and emotional health.
In the future we'll look at our potential in terms of our "life potential"; what we can do to create the best quality of life. So if a job or an activity is damaging to our life or damages our health, in the future nobody will want to do that job.
In the future we simply won't tolerate that any more. You'll expect your daily activities to support your health and support your peace and support your quality of life. And therefore your potential will be in the kinds of activities that will support you to reach you true life goal and will not damage you on the way. Another one of the new goals of education will be to help kids develop a true life goal.
Talents and Potential (both hidden potential and natural potential) are key elements found within the Potential Education Program. Building in higher goals of education is a job for all educators to take seriously.
